Maitland Aphasia Community Group

The Maitland Aphasia Community Group provides support, connection, and communication opportunities for people living with aphasia following stroke or brain injury. Meeting weekly at Telarah Bowling Club, the group creates a welcoming and inclusive environment where members can practice communication at their own pace without judgement. Activities include conversation, games, therapy-based exercises, social outings, and peer support, with speech pathologists attending regularly to assist members in improving speech and language skills while building confidence and social connection.

West Maitland Lions Club

The West Maitland Lions Club is a community service organisation dedicated to supporting local people through fundraising, volunteer work, and community projects across the Maitland region. The club assists schools, sporting groups, charities, families in need, and health initiatives, while also contributing to disaster relief and community events. Through activities such as affles, public events, and donations, West Maitland Lions Club promotes community spirit, friendship, and practical support for those in need while encouraging members to actively serve and strengthen the local community.

All Shook Up Dance

All Shook Up Dance provides fun, energetic, and inclusive dance classes and social events at Telarah Bowling Club, bringing people together through music, movement, and community spirit. Specialising in rock and roll, partner dancing, and social dance styles, the group welcomes dancers of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to experienced performers. Through regular classes, themed dance nights, charity events, and community performances, All Shook Up Dance promotes fitness, confidence, friendship, and social connection while helping keep classic dance traditions alive within the local community.

Telarah Travelling Bowlers

The Telarah Travelling Bowlers are a social lawn bowls group that promotes friendship, sportsmanship, and community connection through regular visits and competitions with bowling clubs across the Hunter Region and beyond. Members enjoy participating in friendly matches, social tours, and inter-club events while building strong relationships with other bowling communities. The group provides an enjoyable and welcoming environment for bowlers of all skill levels, encouraging active participation, teamwork, and the social traditions that are an important part of lawn bowls culture.

Instep Line Dancers

Instep Line Dancers provide fun, social, and inclusive country line dancing classes throughout the Maitland area, helping people of all ages stay active, improve coordination, and build friendships through dance. The group meets regularly at venues including Telarah Bowling Club, Weston Workers Club, and Gillieston Heights Hub, offering a welcoming environment for beginners and experienced dancers alike. In addition to weekly classes, Instep Line Dancers also support local community events, fundraising activities, aged care visits, and social outings, promoting friendship, fitness, and community connection through music and dance.

Combined Probus Club of Rutherford – Telarah.

The Combined Probus Club of Rutherford–Telarah provides retired and semi-retired men and women in the Maitland area with opportunities for friendship, social connection, and active community involvement. The club holds regular meetings featuring guest speakers, social outings, lunches, day trips, and special events designed to encourage companionship, wellbeing, and lifelong learning. Members are also actively involved in supporting community fundraising initiatives, including Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, where they help raise funds and awareness for cancer research and support services while bringing the local community together in a friendly and caring environment.

The Hunter Valley Aviculture Society

The Hunter Valley Aviculture Society brings together bird enthusiasts from across the Hunter Region to promote the care, breeding, conservation, and appreciation of aviary birds and parrots. The society provides members with opportunities to share knowledge, learn from experienced breeders, and participate in meetings, bird sales, educational talks, and community events. Through its activities, the group supports responsible bird keeping, encourages interest in aviculture, and helps foster friendships among people who share a passion for birds and wildlife.

By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, Maitland Seniors helps reduce social isolation and supports healthy, independent living while encouraging members to enjoy an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

Telarah Bowling Club has long been an important part of the social and sporting life of the Telarah and Maitland communities in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. Known locally as “The Friendly Club,” the club has evolved from a traditional community lawn bowls venue into a modern social and entertainment hub that continues to serve generations of local residents. We’re also here to support the local community.
